1. Please define the following terms. [10 marks] * 1 mark each

Value It refers to how dark or light a color is. The tonal values.
Saturation It refers to how bright or dull a color is. How intense is the color.
Hue It refers to the color that falls on the spectrum of the color wheel.
Tint & Shades Addition of white to a hue. Shade - Addition of black to a hue
Mute Colour Addition of 2 complimentary colours to each other to achieve a less saturated hue.
Monochromatic A color scheme that is made up of only one color and its shades, tones and tints.

Value Study A value study refers to rendered images, in different white or greys or black, to establish the mood and to design of values within a composition to produce an appealing and effective design.
What is the purpose of doing value studies?
To explore the possibilities of composition of values within a design, image, shot within a film to establish mood and lighting. To produce more than one possibility for every design. Aids in discussions when it comes to visualisation.

Thumbnail A thumbnail refers to a small drawing that is quickly sketched out to establish a design, which will be reproduced into a bigger image for final use in any design purposes.
Proportionate Color Inventory In film, it refers to a barchart with proportion of colors used in a design laid out, following a color relationship that has been established for the story/scene.
